Modular vocational qualification in materials testing – a successful model
31. October 2025
Modular vocational qualification in materials testing is modular, flexible and practical, adapted to individual circumstances and operational requirements.
Our modular vocational qualification programme (TQ) is a proven concept. In recent years, this model has become an effective and flexible approach to gaining qualifications. It gives both individuals and companies the opportunity to structure training in materials testing step by step and according to their individual needs.
What is a modular vocational qualification?
A modular vocational qualification is essentially a modular form of vocational retraining. A complete training programme is divided into subject-specific modules lasting three to six months. These modules can be attended individually and flexibly. The aim is to make it easier to enter the profession and to adapt training to participants’ personal circumstances.
Not everyone can complete 28 months of training in one continuous period, whether for organisational, family or financial reasons. Modular vocational qualification allows the route to a qualification to be spread over a longer period, module by module and step by step.
Maximum flexibility for participants
The distinctive feature of modular vocational qualification is that all modules are optional. Participants can attend any number of modules, in any order and at intervals that suit them. This opens up numerous possibilities:
- Experienced material testing technicians with NDT certificates want to obtain a vocational qualification? They could, for example, attend Module 4 (materials engineering) and Module 6 (exam preparation), then take the examination as external candidates.
- Career changers want to enter the industry? They could complete Modules 3 and 5, for example, the “classic” route into non-destructive testing (NDT).
- Only have limited time available? Attending a single module is also possible, with no commitment to further modules.
The result is a training model that adapts to different personal circumstances.
Benefits for companies
Modular vocational qualification is also of interest to employers. As a programme leading to a recognised qualification, it is subject to special funding conditions within employee qualification schemes. These may include:
- 100% funding of course fees
- Subsidies for social security contributions of up to 100%
- Support with travel and accommodation costs
With the Federal Employment Agency as a partner, gaining qualifications becomes not only professionally worthwhile but also economically attractive.
