Identifying materials directly on site

Mobile X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) enables fast, non-destructive material identification directly on site. The hand-held instrument determines a material’s chemical composition within seconds by exciting characteristic X-ray radiation.

Typical applications include positive material identification (PMI) in plants, pipelines or pressure vessels, incoming inspection of semi-finished products, and material mix-up testing of components made from different alloys.

We offer mobile XRF testing with documented evaluation, including in hard-to-reach areas or during ongoing operation.

How does radiographic testing work?

In mobile radiographic testing, W.S. Werkstoff Service examines components non-destructively for internal irregularities. The component is first cleaned and precisely aligned with the X-ray source and detector or film. The inspection area is then exposed to radiation under controlled conditions. Differences in material thickness or density appear as brightness contrasts, allowing cracks, shrinkage cavities or other volumetric defects to be detected. The image is evaluated by qualified specialists, with image quality indicators used for verification where required. Finally, the results are documented and provided for quality assurance or component approval.
