Starting Point – DIN 27201-7:2006

Activities related to the assessment and recognition of NDT testing processes (NDT = non-destructive testing) are based on DIN 27201-7:2006. Chapter 4.1 of this standard states: “If non-destructive testing is necessary as part of vehicle maintenance, a competent technical body must be involved.”

With regard to the recognition of the technically competent body itself, DIN 27201-7:2006 stipulates: “The recognition of a technically competent body is carried out by the German Society for Non-Destructive Testing (DGZfP) through its Technical Committee on Non-Destructive Testing in the Railway Sector (FA Bahn) in cooperation with the competent supervisory authority.”

The DGZfP’s Technical Committee on “Non-Destructive Testing in the Railway Industry” developed two guidelines (ISB 1 and ISB 2) for the application of DIN 27201-7. These guidelines describe the requirements for a technically competent body as well as the procedural instructions for the recognition of a workshop by the technically competent body.
